In the end, it was the snoring that pulled both Dee and Jay from their shared slumber.
“Did they show themselves out?” He mumbled groggily, looking up at the empty side of the couch.
“…I don’t think so.” Dee whispered back, nodding to the blanket sticking out from under their large square coffee table. (Which, of course, was piled high with Dee’s notebooks and everything else he’d left lying all over the couch the day before.)
Trying not to wake them, Jay quietly whispered, “how are you feeling?”
“A little better…” Dee whispered back.
“Hungry?”
“Not really.” He shook his head, nuzzling back against Jay.
Jay expected that answer, after the night his fiancé had. Still, he whispered, “I’ll make some soup broth later…”
He glanced down. “and maybe go buy some sleeping bags.”
